Camp Staff
Steve and Roberta at camp Roberta and I caught in our daily shenanigans with the campers (and no, this wasn't a posed picture!)

A very large part of who I am is derived from my experiences on the camp staff at Camp DuPortail at Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation.  Working on the camp staff has allowed me to discover who I am, learn a great deal about working with others, and forge life long friendships.

My first experiences as a staff member at Camp DuPortail began in August 1996.  I served a single week as a Den Chief, working on a volunteer basis.  I enjoyed my experience so much that the next summer I signed up for a full season and have been spending my summers there ever since.

Over the years, I have served in a myriad of jobs at Camp DuPortail.  I began as a lowly den chief, then as support staff, and eventually filling the distinguished shoes of Wolf/Bear Director, Webelos Director, Webelos Extended program staff, and Webelos Extended Scoutcraft Director, and Program Director.  I'm currently serving as Program Director for the 2004 season.

Being a part of camp staff, though, is much more than a summer job.  Serving on camp staff allowed me to discover some of my passions - the outdoors, nature, working with others, and teaching.  It has also allowed me to make innumerable friends, many of whom I have stayed in touch with over the years.  The relationships I have formed at camp are extremely strong, so much so that I consider many of the camp staff as members of my family.

I wouldn't trade my years at Camp DuPortail for anything.  If you ever have the chance to serve as part of a camp staff, jump on the opportunity.  It will be a decision that you won't regret!
